For those of you who don't know, I am a proud member of the ONU men's volleyball team. This weekend we are hosting the GMMVC championships. In February, we played six of the teams in our conference. On Saturday, we will play the final three teams left. Based on the results from February's playdate and Saturday, the championship tournament will be finalized and played on Sunday.
My freshman year, we lost in the semifinals to Cincinnati (eventual champs). Last year, we made a valiant effort through the tournament, but lost in the semifinals to Dayton in dramatic fashion. This year, I have a feeling that the third time will be the charm..
We are currently 6-0 in conference play and are three wins away from capturing the GMMVC regular season championship. This year has been the most successful year for the team since I've arrived at Northern. This team gets it; we just click. We have the home court, and I have a feeling that the team is ready to take the championship.

I'm glad you bears are hosting The GGMVC's this year! For as much as I am around you vball bears and discuss it with you, I didn't know you were 6-0 in conference. You bears are definitely ready to take that championship!

I am so sassy that I won't be able to come! You guys are kicking butt and taking names this year, and I know that you're going to succeed this weekend! There isn't anything much better than seeing all the hardwork pay off.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you have good team chemistry really helps. I have been on teams with some great athletes and we should have been an unbeatable team, but when we got on the field everything would fall apart. The ability to communicate and play to each other's strengths and weaknesses is key. Good luck this weekend, and remember bears are best!
You guys are so awesome and your style of play is just amazing. I played volleyball throughout high school and it's definitely one of my favorite sports. But anyway, I can totally see why you say that the team "just gets it" because you really do and even for someone who isn't familiar with the sport would be able to see that as well.

Joe.... This post makes me even more depressed and wanting the night time to come quicker. Today was just painful to watch, when normally we would click, we just got "out-clicked" today.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the stats, we didn't play poorly, we actually played well. It just didn't go our way. Such a sad and depressing day. But, we have a big weekend coming up at Ohio State this weekend, so we've got to get re-focused and re-tooled for our biggest and toughest tourney of the year. Let's do this!
